Tom Carnell is Managing Partner of CMARCHITECTS and directs overall planning, strategy, development budget, design and construction.
Tom formerly served as Vice President of Healthcare Realty Trust from 1999 to 2005 where he directed department in healthcare planning strategy, physician demand analysis, development budget, design and construction. He was also responsible for planning fiscal budget and performance. Prior to HRT, he served as Manager of Architectural Services, Equipment Planning and Construction with Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) where responsibilities included assisting the Vice President in healthcare planning strategy, hospital service analysis, master planning, design, equipment coordination and construction. He was also responsible for planning architecture and construction fiscal budget. Earlier in his career (1980 – 1993) he served as Principal/Senior Associate Partner with Gresham Smith and Partners.
In 2005, Tom opened CM Architects, PLLC in Nashville and has earned the reputation within the industry of being one of the most creative and innovative architects and has developed/designed project ranging from multi-family housing, Medical Office Buildings Technical & Data Centers, Educational, Restaurants, Religious, Residential, and Medical/Clinical.
Tom is currently registered with National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, State of Tennessee, State of Georgia, State of Alabama, State of Louisiana, State of Florida, State of Texas, State of South Carolina, State of Mississippi, State of Kentucky, State of Virginia, State of Indiana, State of Pennsylvania. Tom is a member of American Institute of Architects, Architects Acoustics Society, Middle Tennessee Architect Society. He received his Bachelor of Architecture from Auburn University, 1974.
Tom’s honors and awards include The Nemours Children’s Clinic, TSA Design Award of Merit HCA Data Center, Tennessee AIA Design Award of Merit, and University of Tennessee Competition for the School of Architecture.
